Battle of the Sexes

What happens when a former college athlete and a former academic over-achiever decide to date? Besides the idea of birthing a super baby, multiple competitive dates are inevitable. I know we may not look like your typical competitive couple but ohhhh do our competitive streaks run deep. While Caleb is very much the ‘in-your-face’, ‘I’m-going-to-take-you-down’

competitor due to playing college basketball , I am a just below the surface, passive, ‘I’ll-show-you-better than-I-can-tell-you’ competitor. Together we make a great team, #TeamLee2016, but I think we’re also each others’ best opponents. I’ve somehow managed to avoid having to play my beau one on one in real life (knock on wood) but do enjoy our game night dates.

It should be no surprise to you that when we moved in together last April, we set up not one but two game centers in our home. We have a Nintendo, Super Nintendo, and Sega Genesis in the home office/studio. Then there’s the Wii, Xbox, Xbox 360, and of course a couple of board games in the living room. We both still wished that we’d never gotten rid of our respective Playstations.

Yeah, I think that proves that we’re pretty competitive and love games. Here is what a typical game night date looks like for us.

First, we pick our medium. We either play all board games or only games on one of our consoles. I favor the Wii and board games while Caleb prefers the Nintendo or Xbox 360.

Next we decide how many rounds we’ll play of each game .If it’s a night before an off day for both of us, we go all night.

Finally we decide who goes first. Caleb is usually a gentleman and institutes the ladies first rule but we are not below a game of rock, paper, scissors.

A competitive date night at home is certainly the LESS option of this priceLESS date but there are definitely other options available that won’t break the bank. I’ve even included links for some of the best deals on these kind of dates in Birmingham.
