It happens every Valentine’s Day. We laugh, we meme, and we publicly declare just how mad we’d be if our Valentine even considered taking us to … (insert fast food restaurant here). Come on, I know you’ve seen them. The best one I’ve ever seen was one for a McDonalds. Imagine staring into someone’s eyes over candlelight while Ronald Mcdonald walks out your gourmet cheeseburger. The restaurant options really just depends on what city you live in and what major fast food chain decides that this, is their year to pull in all that cold hard cash that we pour out to impress our significant others during this celebration of love.
Imagine my surprise that my response to a friend jokingly sharing her conversation with her significant other about 12 Alabama Waffle House’s taking reservations for Valentine’s Day would be … “I’m not mad at that at all. Matter of fact, I think I’ll do just that.” I didn’t even chuckle, not once, well I did chuckle at their texts which can be found below.
Today I’m going to tell you the 3 reasons why I’m not mad at a Valentine’s Date at Waffle House.
I am on a serious, strict budget. Why?!?! Because weddings cost a lot of $$$$$!!! I would love to eat lobster and steak in one of Birmingham’s many fancy restaurants while a violinist serenades Caleb and I at our private reserved table but I know that it’s not realistic nor in our budget. Less is more in our household right now and I’m sure there’s someone giving their better half major side eye and saying either “Don’t try that with me” or “Why can’t you be like her” I apologize to you now for not being sorry.
Caleb LOVES Waffle House!!!! When the proverbial question of where we should eat is asked, his go to answer is Waffle House. I am not that big on breakfast food and usually say “I don’t want that” even though I just told him “It doesn’t matter where we go”. I know, I know but that’s a topic for another day. He’ll love that we’re going to Waffle House and I’ll love the brownie points I get for thinking of his wants over mine.
One of my goals this year was to focus more on my marriage than my wedding. True, I’m on a strict budget to pay for our big wedding celebration but believe me, we have focused more on how our wedding will exemplify our beliefs on marriage more so than all the glitz and glamour of the day.Caleb and I are also currently enrolled in a 14 week group marriage counseling class at a local church. Unfortunately we have been late for the past two Sundays. Our solution …
And since Valentine’s Day is on a Sunday this year, it looks like we will be having a early breakfast date at Waffle House to declare our love to each other. Luckily, the Birmingham Waffle Houses aren’t offering the same promotion and I don’t have to call them right now to reserve our booth. You’d think that wouldn’t be a problem but apparently the Valentine’s Day date at Waffle House is popular.
