Last week, Nintendo released their highly anticipated augmented reality game Pokémon Go. The world has gone Pokémon crazy ever since. Everywhere you look people are in their phones (more than usual), pacing in random patterns, searching for Pokémon. The game is so popular that it overloaded its servers due to having more users than the developers initially planned. Even a Pokémon novice like me has found myself enjoying the game, especially when I played it with my boyfriend. Which is why I believe it would make a great date!
For those unaware of this phenomenon let me fill you in. From my understanding as a non-Pokémon fan this is the game many fans have waited for. Unlike its predecessors Pokémon Stadium and Pokémon Snap, Pokémon Go allows the user to become real Pokémon trainers. Part of the games addicting factor is that you are catching Pokémon in your own backyard. Right outside our doors waiting to be captured and trained for battle are Pikachu’s, Charmander’s, and Squirtles.
So what about catching Pokémon makes a great date? Honestly, not much. It is more about the game itself and the elements that help create it that make it a great date option. One of the reasons the game is so popular is it is allowing people to embrace their childhood. I’m a nostalgic person and I love doing activities that take me back to a place filled with great memories that I can share with someone I love. Even though I was not a fan of the series, PJ was. Seeing his excitement makes me excited which is always a plus.
The game encourages competition among its players, which is perfect for PJ and I since we are pretty competitive. We usually have friendly competitions but this game takes it to a whole new level. However, the best thing about this game is it is F-R-E-E! You may have to watch your data usage but other than that you can enjoy catching Pokémon without spending a dime.
