Would You Take a Vacation for a First Date?

departures-airport-sign-picjumbo-comHow adventurous are you willing to be on the first date? No, I don’t mean sexually. I mean how open are you to going on an out of the box first date (example: skydiving)? The thought came to me recently as I was binge watching Master of None. For those who don’t know it is a Netflix original series produced by and starring Aziz Ansari. I strongly suggest you add this to your Netflix queue and watch it for a “Netflix and Chill” session.

(SPOILERS AHEAD)

So, in one episode Dev, played by Ansari, is planning his first date with Rachel. Feeling the need to impress her he does what any of us would do when we need a first date idea, ask our friends. After a few ideas were tossed around his friend, Denise, suggested a weekend trip to Nashville, TN (They live in Brooklyn). Dev’s response was “A vacation for a first date? Isn’t that kind of nuts?” In my mind YES, that is nuts! But apparently Rachel was, as Dev put it, “down to clown in Nash town” because she actually agreed to go!

Off the top of my head I can think of 100 reasons why this is a bad idea. Who flies to a completely different city to spend the weekend with someone they barely  know on a first date? The most adventurous I’m willing to be on a first date is eat chicken wings. Then, I started to think about it and this might not be such a terrible plan. A weekend away allows you skip all the post first date BS since you would be going on back to back dates. There’s no stressing about sending a post date text, thinking about when you will see each other again, or stalking them on social media. The idea is actually pretty genius.

So what say you? Are you down for a weekend getaway for a first date? Let us  know in the comments!

  1. You do make some very good points, buuuut I still don’t know if I could be that bold to travel to another city with a complete stranger. I’ve always said my perfect first date would be skydiving (because adventurous) and crab legs or BBQ ribs (because there is no way to be cute while eating either one of those…you have to get down and dirty lol).

    1. I agree! I don’t think I would actually do it, but I can see why somebody would. My ideal first date involves getting ice cream and going for a walk.

  2. Yes, I took a vacation for my first date 8 weeks ago (April 4). He is the one! Today, we talked about getting engaged.
    I say go for it!
